Best Mirrorless Camera for Beginners

Best Mirrorless Cameras for Beginners

If you’re just starting out in photography, a mirrorless camera is a great option! They are generally small, lightweight and easy to use. But where to start! Here is a list of the best mirrorless cameras that you can use, practice and take your photography game to the next level.

Fujifilm X-T30

The Fujifilm X-T30 is the little brother of the ever-popular X-T3 and hasmost of the same features for a smaller body and price. The big things you lose out on is 60fps in 4k, weather-sealing, and a second card slot by going for the X-T30, but I think that’s a small price to pay for, well, the price! This camera comes with a 26MP sensor and a Hybrid AF system that includes 425 phase-detect points spread across the entire frame. It rocks a 3" tilting touchscreen display and the Fujifilm X-T30 also has a Joystick for AF point selection and Eternal Film Simulation mode for an even better result. Through its DCI and UHD 4K/30p you can capture using full width of sensor. It also has a 4:2:0 8-bit internal recording along with a 4:2:2 10-bit HDMI output for those aspiring filmmakers out there. All in all, it is a great catch for a beginner who is looking for an impressive mirrorless camera within a budget.

Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark III

The Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark III (just rolls off the tongue doesn’t it?) is another great catch for budding photographers and came out on top of our list of top mirrorless cameras for beginners. It has 20MP Four Thirds sensor (the only Four Thirds camera on this list) and 121-point hybrid autofocus system. It also has built-in image stabilization, which helps creating crisp photos and buttery smooth video footage. Additionally, it comes with a 50MP high resolution shot mode and 10 fps burst shooting with AF-C which is super impressive for a camera at this price point. It is equipped with Extensive direct controls, an articulating touchscreen, a weather-sealed body and In-camera USB charging. Whew! This thing is feature-packed and while it’s pricey, it definitely comes in at the top of my list.

Canon EOS RP

If you are looking for a small, light, compact camera that comes in at an amazing cost, then this one is definitely for you. The Canon EOS RP is unique in that is the only full-frame camera on this list, and Canon fans won’t be disappointed. It comes with a 26.2MP Dual Pixel CMOS sensor and shoots 4K/24p (with a 1.7x crop). The 4 fps in continuous shooting isn’t all that impressive, but if you’re looking for a hybrid camera that can do it all and works really well as a vlogging camera as well, the Canon EOS RP is for you with its fully-articulated 1.04M dot touchscreen. If you are a new or aspiring photographer and/or filmmaker looking for a cost effective option, Canon EOS RP may be right for you.

Nikon Z50

The Nikon Z50 is the newest crop-sensor camera to enter the mirrorless segment. It offers great handling in a super compact size, one of the smallest on this list. The one downfall to the Z50 is the lack of native Z lenses. Since this is a brand new camera (only a few months old as of the writing of this article) there are only a handful of crop-sensor Z lenses out there, but with the inexpensive Nikon FTZ adapter, you can use any of Nikon’s previous DX lenses (we’re told there are 360 lenses compatible), making the Nikon Z50 a great choice from those looking to upgrade from a Nikon DX DSLR camera. It shoots 4k up to 30fps and 1080p to 120fps, pretty standard in this segment, but vloggers will love Nikon’s unique ‘flip down’ touch screen and super crisp HD EVF.

Sony A6400

The Sony A6400 is famous for delivering a high end photo and video performance. With a Bionz X processor, the Sony a6400 is fast, from boot-up times to Sony’s famous autofocusing capabilities. It shoots the standard 4k 30fps (cropped) and 1080p up to 120fps, but unfortunately lacks any in-body image stabilization. The Sony A6400 is a great starter camera for anyone looking to jump into the mirrorless world of Sony. There is also a lot of lens support with these cameras, even from 3rd parties such as Sigma, Rokinon, etc, and all at great prices. All in all, it is an amazing option for the beginners who are looking for a mirrorless camera. Bluetooth, Wifi and NFC connectivity capability
